In the same way let your light shine ·before others [for people to see], so that they will see ·the good things you do [ your good deeds/works] and will ·praise [glorify; give honor to] your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16 EXB)
Sometimes life just seems to come together, it just clicks into place and we have one of those ah-ha moments. I had another one of those moments recently, oddly enough it was after one of those times when you expect to feel defeated, stressed out, and just basically kicked when you’re already down. I don’t do the typical ‘New Year’s Resolution’, although I had decided that I wanted to make a few changes. I wanted to change my priorities, add some more scheduling structure, and step out of my comfort zone from volunteering just at my church and going outside our church walls and somehow be the hands and feet of Jesus.
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28 NLT)
Have you ever heard that coincidences are just those times when God prefers to remain anonymous? Well, that was my experience with these changes I wanted to undertake. First, as I was hoping to be the hands and feet of Jesus, the homeless kept coming up on my heart and it just so happens that my friend who has a homeless ministry asked if anyone could help out through the week from 7-930am. Second, I was thinking of how praying for people is a gift I have been blessed with and I really miss not being able to attend our Ladies Prayer. When I mentioned to my husband about helping out with the homeless ministry, he said he thinks it would be a great idea but he’d like me to also start going back to the Ladies Prayer because it was something I’m gifted with and he thought it would be good for me. All a coincidence, I’m sure 😉
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (Matthew 22:37-39 NLT)
I’m happy to report that even though I was down and out with the flu for 8 days, as soon as I was no longer contagious and well enough to, I got right back with my schedule. Every time the devil tried to throw a wrench in my plans, I kept my focus on God first, family second, followed with serving others third. I heard Joyce Meyers say recently that if we’re seeking God’s face and not His hand, we’ll experience both and that’s exactly what I’ve seen. When we make God our priority because of who He is and not what He can do for us, He’ll show up in our lives in ways we never knew possible.
“God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.”
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. (1 Peter 5:5b-6 NLT)
