Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does. (1 Peter 5:8-11 MSG)
Just a quick word for something that’s been on my heart. I’d like to remind my fellow Believers that the enemy knows our weaknesses, he knows where we stumble, our fears and our doubts. The devil might do everything he can to shoot those fiery darts at us, but that’s all he can do – he isn’t like God, he was created by God, he has limitations – God does not! God already equipped us to shield ourselves from the attacks of the enemy, so instead of feeling defeated and wanting to give up – we need to change our focus to what God has already done for us, He gave us His Son, as well as Christ’s authority here on Earth.
For in Him the whole fullness of Deity (the Godhead) continues to dwell in bodily form [giving complete expression of the divine nature].
And you are in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life [in Christ you too are filled with the Godhead—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—and reach full spiritual stature]. And He is the Head of all rule and authority [of every angelic principality and power]. (Colossians 2:9-10 AMP)
Right now I’ve been under a non-stop attack. I can only imagine that the enemy knows I am close to my breakthrough, so he’s doing all that he can to keep me down and defeated. After my flu, my mom had her hip replaced, then my sons got sick and again I’m sick. This isn’t a coincidence, the enemy is just throwing everything he has at me. I know I couldn’t have made it this far without staying in the Word of God, keeping my spirit refreshed and strengthened, even when others told me to stop volunteering and slow down – No! That’s never the answer, if I wasn’t serving God, if what I was doing was to brag about myself then I could believe that I needed to stop some of my serving; BUT I’m doing this because I want to serve God and bring honor and glory to His name. We can rebuke any sickness the enemy throws at us, we will continue to serve God, and we will continue to do the work that God has given us. If you are struggling under an attack while you are serving God with your heart is in the right place – don’t give up, keep moving forward, if God is for us than who could be against us?
Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
Though a thousand fall at your side,
though ten thousand are dying around you,
these evils will not touch you. (Psalm 91:5-7 NLT)
If you feel like you’re being overwhelmed and you can’t say that you are putting God first in your life, I would ask that you would stop for a minute and pray; ask God to show you if there is an area where you haven’t given Him the honor He is due, or if you have moved your focus from God – ask that He would forgive you and help move your thoughts, words and actions back to serving Him. I’ve been here before so many times and I know that God is faithful, just and forgiving. If our hearts are convicted by the Holy Spirit, He will show us where we’ve missed it and God will bring a refreshing and restoring peace to our souls.
But even there, if you seek God, your God, you’ll be able to find him if you’re serious, looking for him with your whole heart and soul. When troubles come and all these awful things happen to you, in future days you will come back to God, your God, and listen obediently to what he says. God, your God, is above all a compassionate God. In the end he will not abandon you, he won’t bring you to ruin, he won’t forget the covenant with your ancestors which he swore to them. (Deuteronomy 4:29-31 MSG)
Also, the enemy doesn’t just use attacks to get us to move away from God and our path – he will use the very things we desire and want most in life. Sometimes when life is going so good, we find that we don’t need God, we see how well we are doing on our own, that God gets shuffled a dusty old shelf. It never happens over night, slowly we move our eyes from God and to our life, we enjoy life with beautiful distractions. We don’t even realize we’ve done it, then one day, we can go through our Facebook newsfeed and click on ‘Like’ on our friend’s Bible verse and then click ‘Like’ on a perversion of the world (popular examples right now are Fifty Shades of Grey and Magic Mike); but we can’t straddle the fence and believe we are serving God by attending church on Sunday morning and then living for the world the rest of the week.
“I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You’re not cold, you’re not hot—far better to be either cold or hot! You’re stale. You’re stagnant. You make me want to vomit. You brag, ‘I’m rich, I’ve got it made, I need nothing from anyone,’ oblivious that in fact you’re a pitiful, blind beggar, threadbare and homeless.
“Here’s what I want you to do: Buy your gold from me, gold that’s been through the refiner’s fire. Then you’ll be rich. Buy your clothes from me, clothes designed in Heaven. You’ve gone around half-naked long enough. And buy medicine for your eyes from me so you can see, really see. (Revelation 3:15-18 MSG)
If we’ve gotten distracted by the world and have moved our focus – we can still lift our eyes to Heaven and receive grace, mercy and forgiveness.
Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it]. (Hebrews 4:16 AMP)
