Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going.” (John 12:35 NIV)
Jesus shined a light for all to see, so they could see the way out of the darkness – no one realized they were living in darkness until that light shined on them. As followers of Christ, we’re to reflect the light of Jesus to others. We don’t condemn others of their sins, we show them that Jesus is the light, He’s the one who can save them. We’re not denying that sin is a road to hell, when Jesus sent His disciples out He told them to preach the Good News – not the ‘Bad news’ (the Gospel, is literally translated as ‘Good News’). This doesn’t mean we accept sin either, when someone encounters Jesus through Salvation, they will want to remove their sins, to draw closer to God.
When Jesus was teaching the parable of the seed of God and the farmer, He explained how there are several people that receive the message of Salvation. Some will hear, but the enemy will snatch away the seed almost immediately. Some will hear and receive salvation with joy, but because they haven’t planted roots into God’s Word and His Kingdom – the joy is short lived and forgotten when they are persecuted or have difficulties. Some will hear, but will be more caught up in the world and what it can offer and prefer to plant their roots elsewhere. Finally there will be those who hear the Good News of Salvation, the seeds will take root, as they build their lives on God’s Word and serve God and His Kingdom – those seeds will produce a large harvest. I know I want to produce an abundant harvest, I want to always remain soft and tender to God, His teachings, His leadings and for His children – I can only do that if I’m loving the people of this world.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
(John 13:34-35 NIV)
Loving the people, doesn’t mean I’m going along with the world (persecution will come when we call sin a sin, but we can’t point out our neighbors sin when we aren’t dealing with our own) it just means that I’m doing my best to walk in the light and show others that light. I can only lead them to the light and allow Jesus’s love to work on their hearts – the rest is up to them. Pray for those who don’t know Jesus or those who have forgotten Him, pray for laborers to be sent across their path, pray that our words would be God’s Words and not our own, that we would be an encourager to others, that we would be bold but loving, and that we would always walk in the path God has for us.
Note: I’ve been worried about my last post, that it was more me than God, but every time I seek God on that post and whether I should remove it, I get the leading that it needs to stay. No matter what I say or do, I always want to stay true to God, loving Him and His children, be willing to repent, be open to godly rebuke and always sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
