Our BIG Announcement

In my walk with God, I’ve only had a few times where God has led our family with a specific set of instructions.  The first was when God told me it was time to quit my job (that’s when I learned when God gives you a command, no matter how fearful you are – don’t try to ‘tweak’ what He’s given you) and also when He told me to begin homeschooling our sons (I wrote about both of those instances in my blog post, ‘A New Direction‘).  Don’t misunderstand what I’m struggling to explain; I believe the Holy Spirit leads us all the time, but I’m talking about those times, where you’ve been led somewhere you weren’t expecting nor even considering.

When we decided to buy our current home, we didn’t ask God about it until well after construction had started {it’s embarrassing to think how far I’ve come in spiritual maturity – and still soooo far to go!}.  I remember sitting up in our bed in the middle of the night, and sending my husband a message (he was in Iraq at the time) and luckily he was able to reply quickly.  Together we asked for God’s forgiveness and prayed on it; now God did give us peace at that time, but we believe in hindsight that the Holy Spirit was warning us if we chose to continue on that path, we would encounter heartache and difficulty.  Thankfully, after a burdensome 5 years, today we can honestly say that although our family went through our biggest faith walk yet; we know it was only by God’s amazing grace and mercy that we were we able to sustain through!

So with that past consequence in the back of our minds, our big news was not taken lightly:  whether by the direct leading of the Holy Spirit or just with affirmation of the Holy Spirit, we will be selling our home and moving to Wyoming! {edit or maybe Montana, not exactly sure yet} FYI: we’ve never been to Wyoming, it is 1500 miles from our family, friends and our beloved church; it will not be easy, it will not be comfortable, but we believe it is where God is leading us!

We have been praying for God’s guidance and discernment in every aspect of this move and God has been revealing Himself in such sweet ways!  Whether directly through the Holy Bible, a random message of encouragement, or every sermon that I’ve downloaded to listen to during my training runs – we have seen the evidence of God’s direction during this new season we are entering.

I will share just a few things that God has given to us during this process:

1) HIS timing, not ours – don’t operate in fear, that’s not of God – HE is Jehovah Shalom

2) HE reminded me during one of my prayers that HIS instructions had not changed – we are to raise our sons as the men of God that HE created them to be – and this move will be part of Max’s instructions; as we’ve completed our task as we were commanded with our oldest son [Hunter graduates in May and leaves for the Air Force shortly after]

3) I’ve often ignored or not accounted for the value and/or cost of our faith.  I’ve spent more time dwelling on what I haven’t done for God because it hasn’t been ‘BIG’ enough {in my small mind unless I was going to be a missionary, foster a child, and/or starting a ministry – those were the only real important ways of sacrificing by stepping out in faith}, instead of looking at all the times I’ve given, served, or just completely trusted in God regardless of circumstances surrounding and overwhelming me.  I’ve neglected that each step of faith we’ve taken as a family has not only grown our faith, but has made us stronger individually and together.  We don’t deny what’s around us, instead we are emboldened in spite of our anxiety or fear, because we trust God and HIS Word.  This has enabled us to step out into even deeper waters when God calls us.  We have chosen to believe this is what God has called us to do {even when we don’t know why or have all the answers} so we will not weaken our resolve, instead we will choose to trust and obey.

Years ago God gave my family the passage of Jeremiah 29:11-14 as a promise to hold on to while my husband works overseas and now more than ever, I’ve chosen to hold on to ALL of that promise!

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.  In those days when you pray, I will listen.  If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.  I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.”
